🚀 Bullet pitch

A competitive fantasy Hack‘n‘Slay Battle Royale with heavy focus on character builds and skill development for friends who love a competition.

💭 Game idea

Players fight each other in battle royale style levels. The first minute is peaceful exploring and skilling your character. After that, it’s on!
So perfect your character, show some skill, and survive till the end. But careful: when you die, you’re out..

🌟 Nightfall in the making

As I am still working on Nightfall, I wanted to share the current state:

– gameplay trailer coming soon –

🚀 Starting the project

The project started in 2017 when I had the idea of building a competitive couch game for friends who want to compete against each other.

Back then, the game looked completely different. The basic thought was to have short matches with different game modes and varying modulators combined with basic skill development:

🧑‍🚀 Redesign and gear shift

After this first version that I tested successfully with friends, I was eager to the game, but with a few changes: the game should feel less stressful and surprising and be more tactical and cunning.

Nightfall should make players feel like they created a powerful character and that they made the right choices.

In this new version players pay more focus on building their character and playing more strategically.

After a few months (and other small projects) I started anew and created the new version of Nightfall:

The basic concept changed to a 2-phase game loop:

First, players explore the level, collect skill points and spend them on their character.
Second, they battle against each other until only one character survives the match.

💥 Spaghetti & a break

I started to learn coding back in 2017 with big help of a very good friend. At this time (it’s 2019) I didn’t have that much experience regarding Unity and C#.

As you may have seen in the video above, the game was starting to get laggy and FPS dropped heavily after some time playing.

A lot of new ideas for games came to my mind while working on Nightfall and I wanted to test new stuff to simply learn.

These two things made me question the game so heavily that I wanted to move on.

And that’s what I did.. 🤷‍♂️

🔥 Reignite

I worked on other projects (like Runner Runner or Rocket Dudes) and learned a lot throughout 2019 and 2020.

And to be honest, I was never really done with Nightfall – I always felt like re-doing the game with everything I’ve learned.

The final push came from a friend. At some point he asked me: „When are you going to finish Nightfall?“ – and that was the eventual drive I needed.

So I re-started the project from the very beginning. Again.

If you’re also interested in the other designs, that’s how it looks like right now:
